August 7, 2007: Update on The Mamou Playboys School of Music

back to Roots News
Remember, for the next four Tuesdays in August you can take accordion classes with Steve Riley, fiddle classes with David Greely, or guitar classes with Sam Broussard. And during the final class on Aug. 28, you'll get to play with the entire Mamou Playboys band!

We still have a few openings for each of the three instruments, including single-session slots for the Aug. 7, Aug. 14 and Aug. 21 classes. Please give us a call to find out what's available.

For these initial sessions, the classes will be geared to intermediate-advanced players. You'll be learning two tunes each night from a selection of great songs like "La Pointe aux Pins," "The Scott Playboy Special," "Katherine," and more. Fiddles should be tuned down one whole step, and accordions must be in the key of C.

The classes are from 6-7:30 p.m. and the cost for all four is just $30 for members of Friends of Louisiana Folk Roots, $40 for non-members. The classes will be going on simultaneously in different classrooms at the Acadiana Center for the Arts, 101 W. Vermilion in downtown Lafayette.

Space is limited and pre-registration is required for all classes, so give us a call at (337) 234-8360. Be ready to learn some great tunes and great techniques, and have some fun to boot!
