Routes to Roots

The Routes to Roots Workshop Series (formerly Fait à la Main) offers instruction in Louisiana's Cajun and Creole cultural traditions. These classes are open to the public, but members of Friends of Louisiana Folk Roots receive a discount. Check back occasionally to see new workshop listings!

For those of you that are interested in taking the lessons, Louisiana Folk Roots has received a grant to videotape the Routes to Roots series in order to preserve valuable lessons for future generations of students. The resulting material will be maintained as the "Louisiana Folk Roots Collection" in the Archives of Cajun and Creole Folklore housed in the Center for Cultural and Eco-Tourism at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette and will be studied by students of Louisiana culture. Limited use of some footage from the classes may be used in an effort to promote the series and the organization in general. It is our hope that you will understand the camera's unique ability to capture not only the specific messages of each teacher but also the important processes involved in passing the tradition on.
