03/13/06   Louisiana Folk Roots receives grant from Burlington Resources!
Burlington Resources holds a major land position in South Louisiana as owner of 660,000 mineral fee acres that offer long-term production and exploitation potential. Its 2005 Louisiana production averaged better than 149 mmcf/day. Burlington operates fields throughout South Louisiana and has employees in offices in several communities including Lafayette, Houma, and Redell. The Burlington Resources Foundation is the major channel of philanthropy for Burlington Resources, administering a consistent contributions program in recognition of the company's intent to support and improve the general welfare and quality of life in the communities it serves through a combination of direct contributions to help those in need, and by encouraging its employees to donate their own time and resources to further its efforts.

02/02/2006 Update on The 2006 Dewey Balfa Cajun and Creole Heritage Week
       We have added class descriptions as well as the Guiding Principals of our teaching program. Also, we regret that, due to unforeseen circumstances, Ed Poullard will not be one of our instructors at this year's event; however, we are pleased to announce that Cedric Watson will be the full-time instructor for our Creole Fiddle class.

       In case any of you are wondering, we at Louisiana Folk Roots would like to let you know that our organization was safely out of harm's way from the hurricane, unlike so many other organizations in other areas of Louisiana that suffered such tremendous loss. We feel very fortunate indeed to be able to say that our events and activities will continue as scheduled.
       If you have recently mailed us a registration and/or fees for any of our events, and those materials might have been routed through the New Orleans post office, please contact us to be sure that we have received them.

       Linda Olson of St. Paul, Minnesota has won free admission to our 2005 camp at Chicot State Park. Her name was picked during our Arrête pas la Musique fundraiser in Ville Platte, La on Saturday, January 22. Anyone who registered by October 31, 2004 was automatically entered into the drawing.
