The Dewey Balfa
Cajun and Creole Heritage Week
2001 - Participant Evaluations
Participants in the Dewey Balfa Cajun and Creole Heritage Week were asked to fill out evaluations at the end of the event in order to help the organizers plan for the future. The response was overwhelmingly positive. Virtually every aspect of the camp, every individual staff member, and every evening dance band were singled out for praise by at least one participant. Some ignored the separate categories on the form and wrote only a few powerful, positive sentences. Others went into detail, focusing on each of the smaller aspects that made up the whole. In general, the evaluations proved extremely helpful. Below are direct quotes from the evaluations.

“The entire event was inspirational, emotional, educational,
rewarding. I’m so proud to be a part of it!”
“I don’t know how you could improve this... maybe have it for a month.” “It pleases my heart to see the love and respect shown to the ‘seniors’ in the culture. I feel the love among us all. Thank you!” “The setting is beautiful. What a treat to be in cabins up above the water! It is completely seductive...” “The food was HEAVEN! Thank goodness for the dances to burn off some of the fat and calories!” “The dances were at the perfect time of the evening— still time to jam. So glad it’s outside and the public can come for $5.” “This camp would be a bargain at twice the price. Thanks for an outstanding experience.” “Absolutely perfect setting and accommodations. Perfect!!” “You are taking good care of your older people. That makes us happy. They carry the secret of 1) good music and 2) being together...” “The evening dances alone were worth the price of admission.” “The master classes were great and very often touching and emotional. It was special to meet all those wonderful musicians.” “The food was excellent and well prepared. (But what about my hip measurements?)” “BEAUTIFUL park and wonderful to hear Cajun music on the bayou. A great treat.” “The cooks were as spicy as the dishes they prepared and I would love to take any of them home.” “Thanks so much for all the incredible musicians that you included, especially the older ones... I’m gonna cry next week at work!” “The staff was the most accessible of any camp I’ve ever been to, both musicians and administrative staff...” “I think the best aspect of the week was the integration of place, music, culture and food. The musicians were extraordinary... but the fact that all aspects of the day were directly related to the musical culture added a lot.” “I would honestly add something if I thought it might be a good suggestion, however, this thing is too perfect.” “Good thing the mosquitoes were bad or I might have thought I’d died and gone to heaven...” |
